Bohol, located in Central Visayas,is one of the most famous tourist destinations in the country. The island city is famous for its Chocolate Hills. There are more or less 1268 hills, mostly between 30 and 50 meters high. They are very uniform in shape and covered with grass, which, at the end of the dry season, turns chocolate brown, where the hills derive its name.
The city tour includes a drive to Tagbilaran City through the countryside of Carmen. Guests will have the chance to stop at the historical and cultural background of the island to such landmarks like the Sandugo or the Blood Compact Marker Shrine, a monument which is the site of the first international treaty of friendship between Spaniards and Filipinos.The Sandugo was a blood compact, performed in Bohol between the Spanish explorer Miguel López de Legazpi and Datu Sikatuna, the chieftain of Bohol, on March 16, 1565, to seal their friendship as part of the tribal tradition. “Sandugo” is a Visayan word which means “one blood”. The monument, a masterpiece of the Boholano sculptor and National Artist for Sculpture, Napoleon Abueva, is composed of bronze statues of Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, Rajah Sikatuna and witnesses. Then, take a solemn visit to the Baclayon Church, the oldest church in Bohol. Afterwards, you will also be introduced to local livelihood activities such as pottery and bolo (farm knife)making. There’s also a chance to see the Philippine tarsier, one of the smallest monkeys in the world in a private garden for viewing. Board a floating bamboo restaurant for lunch, then cruise the idyllic Loay River. The tour will end in the afternoon.
