The small island of Pamilacan is nestled in the heart of the Bohol Sea. Pamilacan means “resting place of the mantas”, however it is also been interpreted to derive from the word “pamilac”, or harpoon, a device that was used to capture the mantas, dolphins and whales.
In your tour, you will be taken to see the 200-year-old Spanish fort on the northeast side of the island, which served as a watch station against the intrusion of pirates and enemies of the Spanish colony. Visit the Santa Cruz at the chapel’s altar, and the life within the marine sanctuary. Then, stroll and swim on the white sand beaches around the island. Pamilacan is a coral island where fossilized seashells can be seen on the island’s rocky hill.The jaws and bones of some marine mammals and whale sharks are even used to adorn a number of homes of the village. The blue waters surrounding the island, on the other hand, teem with lush and colorful marinelife. Dolphin watching is a daily attraction in Pamilacan Island. Lucky ones have a chance to see sperm whales and bryde’s whales during the month of March, April, May and June. Highly skilled spotters will accompany all trips, and will serve as guides in looking for the majestic creatures in their natural habitat.
