Pagsanjan is a prime attraction in Laguna province, which is only two hours drive southeast of Manila. The drive to Pagsanjan passes through a rich agricultural region of rice and coconut plantations; the University of the Philippines’ College of Agriculture; the International Rice Research Institute; Calamba town, the birthplace of the national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal; and the fertile volcanic plains at the foot of two famous and mystical mountains, Mounts Makiling and Banahaw.
Being a quaint town whose streets are dotted with colonial houses, it is also best-known for its waterfalls. Take a tour to the falls itself by means a boat ride on a river, through deep gorges, steep canyons, past lush tropical vegetation and the thrilling and exciting “shooting the rapids”, as expert boatmen steer the native wooden boats in swirling waters and around huge boulders at astonishing speed. The boat ride takes an hour up and another hour to return. A delicious lunch will then be served at the local restaurant located along the riverbank after the tour.
